The Headless Horseman

A World Boss, fought on a stage in The Hollow — five floors deep, with 1,000 health for every raider who comes through the gate and 30 minutes to bring it down.

Halloween only. The Headless Horseman can be called only while Halloween is on. The rest of the year, the Hollow Road stays empty.

The five floors

Phases

The platform sinks a floor deeper each time its health crosses a line. What happens on each floor:

FloorFromWhat happens thereWhat it says
I. The Hollow Road 100% Flaming Pumpkin, The Horseman's Dread Who rides the Hollow Road tonight?
II. The Covered Bridge 80% Flaming Pumpkin, Scarecrows Across the bridge. You will not reach the other side.
III. The Graveyard 60% Flaming Pumpkin, Open Graves, The Horseman's Head Lie down. The earth is soft here.
IV. The Burning Mill 40% Flaming Pumpkin, The Horseman's Dread, The Horseman's Head Let it burn. Let all of it burn.
V. The Old Church 20% Flaming Pumpkin, Scarecrows, Open Graves — and it enrages The bell is ringing. It rings for you.

On floor V it enrages: everything it does hits 50% harder and comes 50% faster, until it dies.

What it does

The numbers are before the enrage. You never have to move or pick a target for any of it — on Auto the fight sends raiders where they are needed — but you can click any of its creatures to go after it yourself.

HabitFloorsWhat it does
Flaming Pumpkin
Hits everyone
I, II, III, IV and V Every 8.5 seconds the Headless Horseman winds up for 1.6 seconds, then hits every raider standing for 13. Nothing reduces it — bring bandages and food. On floors IV and V it also leaves burning pitch: 2 more hits of 7, 2.5 seconds apart.
The Horseman's Dread
Holds one raider
I and IV Every 12 seconds one raider is caught and cannot swing or cast for 4.5 seconds.
Scarecrows
Adds
II and V Scarecrows: about one for every 3 raiders (at least 2, never more than 12 at once), each with 160 health plus 12 for every raider in the fight and biting for 8 every 2.4 seconds. 3 raiders are sent at each one. More come every 22 seconds while the floor lasts.
Open Graves
Traps raiders
III and V Every 15 seconds about one raider in 6 is sealed in a Open Grave with 100 health, and the 2 raiders nearest are sent to break them out. Anyone still inside after 12 seconds takes 65 as it closes.
The Horseman's Head
Heals her if left
III and IV Every 32 seconds a The Horseman's Head is set down, with 40 health for each raider standing, and a quarter of the raid is sent at it. If it still stands after 15 seconds, the Headless Horseman heals 7% of full health.

Its treasure

Hoard

Found nowhere else. Every fighter gets one roll at this table per kill, on top of the shared hoard, the painting and the rest — see the rewards. None of it is power: it is decoration, a reagent, and a picture of the thing you killed. The rarity column is relative to the others on this table, not a chance. The furniture goes down in your house or your yard like any other placeable, and the portrait hangs on a wall.

ItemWhat it isRarity
Nightshade ×20–60 Common
The Horseman's Saddle Black leather and tarnished silver on a wooden stand. It is still warm, and nobody has sat in it. Uncommon
The Hollow Signpost A crooked crossroads post with a lantern hung from it. Every arm points somewhere else, and none of them points home. Uncommon
The Grinning Head His own head, on a spike. The candle inside it has never been lit, and has never gone out. Uncommon
The Pumpkin Cart A handcart heaped with pumpkins from the fields along the Hollow Road. One of them has already been carved, and nobody owns up to it. Uncommon
The Headless Horseman He sat for it in the saddle. The painter had to guess at the face. A framed painting — hang it on a wall of your house. Only a World Boss's hoard gives one up. Rare

What else it leaves

Every kill

Every time it falls, one fighter, drawn at random from everyone who dealt it damage, takes home Pumpkin Helm — Town wear: headwear. A great hollowed pumpkin worn over the whole head, carved with a jagged grin and lit from within. It is the nearest thing to a head the Horseman ever had, and he wants it back. Worn on the Town side of your paperdoll, and seen wherever you are not fighting. It carries no armour and no bonus.

And about one fighter in 10 also finds a piece of seasonal decoration, one of these:

  • Pile of Pumpkins
  • Scarecrow
  • Basket of Squashes
  • Laughing Jack-o'-Lantern
  • Hay Bale
  • Corn Shock
  • Witch's Cauldron
  • Leaning Gravestone
  • Skull Candle
  • Apple Bobbing Barrel
